The Swing

"To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield" - This Tennyson quote once adorned all of my high school notebooks and was a personal mantra of mine when I began my university education. I was so enamored by the idea of tireless ambition, of perpetual discovery. And years later, I still am. Yet I've come to realize that even in our life's periods of greatest transformations, there are still moments of "in-between". These moments may not be marked by extraordinarily great things, nor a whole lot of bad either. No grand achievements, nor monstrous failures. To put it plainly, sometimes we are just living. Maybe we are waiting for an opportunity, or trying to save money to make that opportunity happen. Maybe we are bored, maybe we are not quite sure what we are. I am convinced that these moments contain just as much value as the big moments we tend to strive toward and celebrate. And it is with this approach that I intend to build my career and my life: by living for the sole purpose of life, not with one end goal in mind, not to get ahead or get anywhere too particular, but for all the minutes, hours, and spaces in between the great big pendulum's swing.

This blog will house my musings on a little bit of everything, but mostly related to Generation Y's transition into adulthood and a workforce that is swiftly transforming itself even more quickly than its youngest workers. As we anticipate the global economy's upswing, what might we look forward to in the changing definition of work, what might we change from the last generation's definition? And how in the world are we going to do all the things we want to do? I'm anxious to find out, right here. And ok, here and here and here....
